PRLog - May 14, 2012 - Harlem, NY - As part of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Day  on May 19th, 2012 -Red Rabbit is hosting a special Red Rabbit Saturday.  RR Saturdays take place twice a month on Saturday mornings from 10 AM-12 PM at the Red Rabbit kitchen in New York City. In these cooking labs, parents and children (age 8-13) learn age-appropriate kitchen skills, and learn to work together to make delicious, healthy treats. The cost for this event is $25 per parent and $10 per child.

“We have all heard the most recent news that 42% of Americans will be obese by 2030.” Alison Croney, Director of Education at Red Rabbit says, “But did you know that nearly half of New York City’s elementary school students—as well as 28% of the city’s public high school students—are either overweight or obese?”  She continues “A major contributor to this epidemic is the unhealthy food kids eat in school and home.”

Red Rabbit is a NYC-based healthy school meal provider to the NY metro area. They are committed to helping all educators, parents and kids understand the importance of nutrition, healthy eating and where food comes from. Red Rabbit Saturdays are one of the innovative educational programs that Red Rabbit offers to the community-at-large to help establish healthy eating habits at not just an early age but any age.

“Red Rabbit Instructors and Special Guest Chefs lead the cooking instruction, with a focus on seasonal, healthy and whole foods.” Ms. Croney explains, “Afterwards, all participants will sit together to eat the healthy and energy producing lunch that will sustain those feel-good vibes throughout the day." She continues, “The ultimate goal is to show both parents and kids that eating healthy, even in what is called a food-desert, is not beyond reach. We can all live a healthy lifestyle when we are educated on how to live it daily."
