Andrew “Ellard” Resignato To Kick Off District 5 Supervisor Campaign On Thursday, May 17

Local Pizza Shop, Go-Getters, to Host Campaign Launch for San Francisco District 5 City Supervisor Race
By: Committee to Elect Resignato

May 14, 2012 - PRLog -- San Francisco, CA/May 14, 2012/Committee to Elect Resignato - Andrew “Ellard” Resignato announced today that he will toss his hat in the ring, and some pizza dough, on Thursday, May 17, 2012, announcing his candidacy for District 5 Supervisor at Go-Getters Pizza (69 Gough St., San Francisco, 94102).

Resignato is a newcomer to the San Francisco political scene but he has been active in the community since coming to San Francisco 10 years ago.  The event is scheduled for 6:00 – 8:00 PM, and will feature Reisgnato making pizzas for his supporters, and his formal candidacy announcement.

He has served as Director of the San Francisco Immunization Coalition (SFIC) for the past decade working to prevent pertussis (whooping cough) in the Bay Area, driving broad adoption of the California Immunization Registry (CAIR) and establishing a seven-year partnership with the San Francisco Giants supporting citywide immunization efforts.

“I’m not your normal political candidate and this will not be an orthodox campaign,” said Resignato. “I have a degree in economics so I’m practical, I’m a musician so I’m creative, and I’m Italian so I love to eat. Thus the pizza party.”

“I’m honored to run in District 5 which is really the heart of San Francisco. I believe it is important for the people of this District to have a real choice in this race. I’m happy to be outside of the City Hall political establishment and I believe my campaign provides a distinct alternative to the more politically mainstream candidates who are running. My supporters are creative, engaged, and intelligent people who want to make a difference and we will.”

“I chose Go-Getters because it is a small, family-owned business that has been in this neighborhood for over 20 years. As Supervisor, I will work hard to support businesses like this. I also love their marinara sauce,” said Resignato.

Among the issues Resignato will highlight in his campaign:

Generating revenue for the City by making large corporations pay taxes for doing business in San Francisco.
Supporting small business by focusing on issues that affect them (red tape, parking, taxes).
Prioritizing law enforcement by refocusing resources on solving violent and property crimes and by treating drug use as a public health issue rather than a law enforcement issue. Currently, 25 percent of all arrests in San Francisco are for drug violations.
Eliminating the silos that exist in City Departments to improve efficiency and eliminate duplication. (e.g. creating one citywide Information Technology (IT) Department to oversee all city IT services).
Improving transportation by unifying the different transit systems and building incentives in the system for good service.
Fixing damaged roads and sidewalks in District 5 and improving the mobility of the elderly and disabled.
Investing in substance abuse programs as a way to decrease homelessness.
Preparing for an earthquake by retrofitting soft understory buildings.
Nurturing the Bay Area Food Revolution.
As a proponent of simple but effective ideas, Resignato is a fan of David Chiu’s proposal of texting drivers before towing their vehicles, “I would like to see this implemented by the Mayor’s Office,” commented Resignato, “It is simple ideas like this that help our city run smarter and better for residents.  These are the kinds of issues I will be talking about during my campaign.”

Resignato said he is not worried about being a relative outsider to the political scene.

“As an independent, pragmatic, progressive candidate. I make up my own mind. I like to get things done efficiently and intelligently, and I believe government has an active role in leveling the playing field between regular citizens and powerful interests.”
