iTriage to Sponsor 3rd Annual Cutting For A Cure

48-hour hair cutting marathon in Harlem to raise awareness and promote early diagnosis of men’s health issues

May 14, 2012 - PRLog -- Denver, CO and New York City, NY – iTriage® has been named a corporate sponsor for Cutting For A Cure, which reinforces its commitment to providing free health information and raising awareness of curable diseases through early detection. As a leading consumer mobile and Web application, iTriage helps people answer the two most common medical questions: What could be wrong? and Where should I go for treatment? The third annual Cutting for a Cure 48-hour hair cutting marathon will take place July 20-22, 2012 at Denny Moe’s Superstar Barbershop in Harlem.

Funds raised through Cutting For A Cure provide education and free health screenings by a team of medical personnel from Harlem Hospital, Iris House and Barbershop Quartet.  The screenings will take place at Denny Moe’s Barbershop in Harlem from Friday, July 20 through Sunday, July 22, and will test for diseases ranging from diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, asthma, kidney disease, hepatitis and HIV. The theme of Cutting For a Cure 2012 is to thank First Responders including NYPD and NYFD for their contributions and support.

Cutting For A Cure is the brainchild of barber/groomer Dennis “Denny Moe” Mitchell, who felt compelled to take action after being diagnosed in 2010 with Type II diabetes. “Most African-American men don’t like to go to the doctor or even discuss their health,” he explained. “There is a need for raising awareness of health issues that unevenly affect minorities in urban areas, and the neighborhood barbershop is the ideal gathering place to educate the community that disease prevention is the best method of living a healthy life.”

In addition to providing hair cuts and free health screenings, the third annual Cutting For A Cure will offer live entertainment for all ages, healthy food samples and individual health consultations.

As a corporate sponsor of Cutting For A Cure, iTriage provides mobile and Web users with on-the-go access to healthcare information about symptoms, diseases, procedures and medication. Created by physicians, iTriage also contains a nationwide database of hospitals, urgent care centers, retail clinics, pharmacies and physicians.

Downloaded more than six million times, iTriage is available for free from the iTunes® app store and the Android™ Marketplace, and is also accessible from any Internet-enabled device at www.iTriageHealth.com.
