May 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Strider Sports International, Inc., which designs specifically-engineered, no-pedal bikes that encourage toddlers and young children to ride, learn and explore the world on two wheels at a very early age, donated 100 “No-Pedal Bikes” to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The donation to local-based organizations (such as Children’s Hospital Los Angeles) is part of Strider Sports’ sponsorship commitment to the Amgen Tour of California to serve communities that host the upcoming road cycling race.

Several patients from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles were on-hand to receive and try out the Strider “No-Pedal Bikes” with special instructions provided by two-time U.S. Olympian and track cycling coach, Adam Duvendeck, as well as former professional BMX rider, Greg Hill.

”We are so proud to be part of Amgen's California bike tour, and to have this opportunity to donate Strider bikes to Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Strider no-pedal balance bikes make it possible for all children to realize their bike riding potential,” says Ryan McFarland, Founder and Chief Enthusiast of Strider Sports Intl., Inc.  “There is nothing more satisfying to us than to see smiles of confidence beam from Strider riders when they realize they are riding on two wheels. We are committed to developing future riders and look forward to this year’s Amgen Tour of California,” commented McFarland.

"We are thrilled that Strider Sports International has generously donated “No-Pedal Bikes” to Children's Hospital Los Angeles. The unique design of the Strider bike allows our diverse patient population to ride at an early age," said Rodney B. Hanners, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.  "The young toddlers that received the bikes today were very appreciative and excited to begin exploring the world around them. We are proud to be a part of Amgen Tour of California and are extremely thankful to Strider Sports International, and to AEG, our corporate partner for introducing us to them."

“Through the generous support of many of our Amgen Tour of California sponsors, we have the opportunity to not only introduce the great sport of cycling to residents of California as well as the millions who watch our race on television, but to also give back to communities throughout the state like we are doing today,” said Kristin Bachochin, Executive Director, Amgen Tour of California and Senior Vice President, AEG Sports.

“The donation made today by Strider Sports will both help children learn the joy of cycling at an early age and, more importantly, be part of the great care and rehabilitation that Children’s Hospital Los Angeles provides to their patients on a daily basis.”

An additional component of Strider Sports International’s sponsorship of the upcoming Amgen Tour of California cycling race is the creation of Strider Adventure Zones that will be featured as part of the popular Lifestyle Festivals at the finish lines at each stage of the eight-day race which kicks off Sunday May 13th in Santa Rosa, CA. Strider Adventure Zones provide young children the opportunity to play, learn, and socialize with peers while riding on two wheels. In addition, kids will have an opportunity to race on a specially-designed course at the race’s Final Stage at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles on May 20th. The races and other activities planned for the Strider Adventure Zones are the perfect way to fuel a child’s budding passion for cycling and to help teach sportsmanship and camaraderie with fellow riders.

The Amgen Tour of California is an eight-day event, featuring elite professional teams and athletes from around the world. The 16 world-class teams chosen to participate in the 2012 race will include Olympic hopefuls and Tour de France contenders representing more than 20 countries, giving fans around the world a preview of what is to come this July in both France and London.
