Health and wellness tourism is the latest trend in the travel market and the growing number of baby boomers taking interest in this field is dramatic. When we talk of health tourism, we are talking about various aspects in its purview. In involves undertaking a tour for the betterment of health. Activities like yoga, diet and nutrition, naturopathy treatment, weight reduction and medical surgeries are among the many facets of health tourism.
The spa industry is one segment which has gained a lot of popularity among the baby boomers. Middle to old age is the time when people like to engage themselves in healing and soul searching activities. Spa is the perfect answer to their needs. The various programs available in spas offer world class and professional health courses, often combined with relaxation in a 5 star ambiance. They offer all the luxuries that may be desired by the baby boomers after years of service and hard work. Spas offer many programs such as those offering natural mineral or thermal treatment provided in the natural surroundings. These are administered and supervised by professional health experts and hydro therapists. Such courses are immensely popular among the middle aged and senior citizens. Apart from the hydrotherapy, spas also include various treatments offered in hotels and resorts. These are world class, luxurious hotels where baby boomers are increasingly being targeted. Examples can be sited of Jamaica where more travelers are visiting resorts which offer 5 star spa facilities. Here, I would like to mention about the two most therapeutic springs located in Jamaica. The first one being, Bath Fountain Hotel and Spa in St. Thomas, and the Milk River Spa in Clarendon. Both these offer excellent hydrotherapy. These have become so famous that even foreign tourists are visiting them for their annual treatment and pleasure. It is not surprising why so many aged people are taking that extra effort to be in these spas at the right time.
Other places like Kerala in India also offer Ayurvedic messages and treatments which are world famous. Switzerland too is famous for its Lucerne Spa. The health sector, specially, spa treatment has become so popular that the baby boomers are now increasingly using this in the form of naturopathy, diet, nutrition care and health education. One of the main contributing factors is the number of discounts that are being offered by various spa companies to the aged people. This affordability has prompted the middle income baby boomers to engage in the super exotic spa treatments.
Life is meant to be enjoyed. Why should the old and middle aged people leave this golden opportunity, to be pampered with treatments, which offer a holistic mind, body and spirit experience? Life is too short to be just wasted on routine chores. Instead, this is the time when our oldies should get going and try something therapeutic and wholesome. So go on and enjoy the many bounties of nature!
