May 10, 2012 - PRLog -- London, 10 May, 2012: London’s markets opened up to the world in time for the Olympics - University project shortlisted for national entrepreneur contest

myMzone’s community project has been selected and shortlisted as a finalist for the National University Entrepreneur competition (NUE2012), an event that receives entries from entrepreneurs all over the UK.

The website has been dreamed up by two Middlesex University business students, Asaf Nahum and Ravi Jay, who aimed to create an online platform  to enable tourists that visit London to make the most of the capital’s markets by having access to a wide range of unique and authentic wares handpicked from London's best markets. Their solution has now become a surprise success amongst small retailers and market traders with a growing web community allowing traders to sell their wares online.  The website give London market enthusiasts an opportunity to research products and make a rational buying decision from the comfort of their living room.

myMzone’s online platform provides a twofold solution targeted on merchants and tourists at the same time.

Listing a product on myMzone™ is free for merchants, with services like : professional photographs of the item, creation product descriptions and promotion of the vendor’s brand by using social medias and online marketing included in the package. myMzone.com has now more than 61 merchants signed up, with new merchants joining every day.

With the Olympics approaching myMzone.com now has more than 60 merchants signed up with more approaching them every day. The site allows traders to sell a wide range of products seen at London’s markets from clothing and toys to beauty accessories, homeware and leather.  The site has already seen purchases by shoppers from across the world including Australia, Japan, Singapore, US, Canada, Sweden, Hong Kong etc.

This week Ravi and Asaf discovered that they had been shortlisted for the National University Entrepreneur competition (NUE2012) which receives entries from student entrepreneurs all over the UK.  The finals will see the pair deliver their business pitch to a judging panel and a 300 strong audience made up of business experts, entrepreneurs and university students in June.  If they get through this stage, they will face a Dragons’ Den inspired British Business Embassy event during London 2012, pitching to international entrepreneurs and business people.

As Ravi Jay’s statement reports: “Such a rapid uptake from small businesses and markets traders has been encouraging for us, as the website opened to the public only in December 2011, but the engagement of registered merchants is an apt testimony to the great opportunity myMzone is offering to local communities.”

The co-founder Asaf Nahum added: “The concept behind myMzone was inspired by London 2012 Olympics. While the exposure and visibility can be leveraged to promote the local markets, the buzz generated can be translated to expand sale volumes of local merchants.”

Despite its short history, myMzone is proving popular with market traders as well as with worldwide customers and the founders are ready for the next step. In fact Ravi and Asaf are aiming to sign up all of London’s best markets in the future; and are already receiving interest from markets outside of London, including Glasgow, Jerusalem, New York etc.
