Husband & Wife Photo Team on a 7,000 Mile Alaska Adventure

May 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Outdoor enthusiasts and photographers Nick and Alissa Richardson are turning to the internet to raise funds for their newest project, a photo excursion that will take them from Las Vegas, NV to the Arctic Circle in Alaska and back in approximately 28 days. The project will take them to small towns, into untouched wilderness, and just about everywhere in-between. At the end of the project, the husband and wife photo team plan on using the images they capture to create a series of photo books, canvas prints, and an online gallery of the trip. Nick and Alissa are embracing the site Kickstarter.com with the hopes that this site will help them raise the needed funding to complete this project.

In-line with Kickstarter.com guidelines, Nick and Alissa have set a number of days in which the project needs to be funded. If the project is not funded within this timeframe then the project will receive nothing. The Richardson’s project will have a 30-day window to reach the funding goal of $16,000.  We asked Nick what the money that is raised will be used for and he told us “we plan to use the funding to pay for the publishing of our books, the canvas print costs, postcard costs, and the creation of our online gallery, we don’t plan to use the funding for the trip itself. We will be skipping hotels and camping instead to save money, we will be fishing for food and cooking over our campfire, we want the funding to go into the actual production of the products that this project will create.”

When asked why Kickstarter.com was appealing, Nick noted “Kickstarter gives you the ability to spread the word quickly about the project you are working on and allowing you to keep everyone up to date on the status of your project is invaluable.” Another advantage is Kickstarter’s merchant partner Amazon.com, which enables each project the convenience of receiving funds from anywhere in the world. He also added “another advantage to using Kickstarter is the fact that the backers get something from the project, they get to feel like they are apart of it because they actually are. Without backers the project would be nothing and this is why all of our backers will be getting some pretty great rewards.”

When asked why they were setting off on such a long trip this summer the answer came pretty quick and easy for the husband and wife adventurers. The Richardson’s wanted to take their love for the outdoors, love of photography, and love of traveling the open road and combine it into a book that others could enjoy. They wanted to do something others would enjoy following and would like to keep people up to date during the journey. Alissa stated “this project is not just about us going on some long road trip, it is about bringing hundreds or even thousands of people along for the ride. We plan on sending all of our backers custom postcards from the road, updating blogs as we are cruising down the road, and allowing everyone to feel as if they are in the car with us, or hiking down the same mountain trail.”

Nick has spent a lifetime outdoors doing activities such as camping, fishing, hunting, and backpacking. He is also the owner of the outdoors website OutdoorsNative.com. Alissa has a BFA in Photography, a Masters in Art Education, and is an Elementary Art Teacher. Together they have taken many road trips, always with cameras in hand. This trip will go beyond anything they have done in the past and they want to share it with as many people as possible.
