LV-PITA to Continue FREE Computer Class for Unemployed and Job Seeker Workshops

By: LV-PITA

Dec. 1, 2015 - PRLog -- The Professional Institute of Technology has been offering a FREE Computer and Job Search skills class and will continue to offer this class even as the uemployment rate is dropping, and the market is turning around.

"Things are looking better, and our Career Services Department is starting to see more job announcements coming from employers." states Sean Clemens, Manager of Career Education.

LV-PITA focuses their career training on areas in high demand, such as Medical, Information Technology, Accounting and Bookkeeping and Office skills. Everyone needs to have basic skills to apply for positions. Most companies require applicants to apply online.

Also, what used to be traditionally a job that didnt require computer skills is changing. Many technical jobs require their technicians to utilize hand held devices or computerized applications which is forcing us all to become familiar and open to technology.

This is where LV - PITA has accepted the challenge to train and certify qualified individuals and offer additional relevant courses to the Las Vegas job seekers.

Focusing mainly on the career changer and unemployed, LV-PITA also offers courses in Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, Medical, Accounting and Bookkeeping/Intuit and Adobe. Their programs are designed for individuals who need to take more time to learn an application than an 8 hour course.

While they do offer some fast track courses and boot camp style training, it is not the focus of what they do. Director Laurie Clemens explains, “I have found that most career changers and people learning software for the first time, need the repetition of multiple sessions. Plus with the added benefit of computer based learning, there are multiple formats for each person’s learning style.”

Since opening in 2009, the center has helped over 2000 unemployed or career changers to learn software, and have succeeded in helping students find work. Some students come in for a short two week course, and others are in school for up to a year or longer.

The center also focuses on helping individuals with disabilities and is involved with agencies that help the disabled such as Nevada Job Connect, Bureau of Vocational Services and the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Their Information Technology (IT) program works with many local Computer Hardware/Software Vendors and Technology companies to provide Internships and Job Placement Assistance. Many of the previous students have landed very good jobs which help them to prosper and provide for their families.

Slade A, a student with LV-PITA states, "From the minute I walked into LV-PITA I knew I was at home. Everyone was so nice and the instructors are fantastic. They really make sure you learn the programs and not just the book, but hands on application so you can be successful on the job."

Mary, an Accounting & Bookkeeping student states, " I was nervous about changing careers and thought my previous background would fit with Accounting. It had been so long since I was in a classroom, I was scared I might not do well. Everyone was so caring and put up with me asking the same questions over and over! Nobody ever made me feel bad".

Chona, a student who was hired at LV-PITA states,"I wasn't sure what I was going to do after I was paralyzed in an accident. I knew I was going to want to continue to work and be around people, but I couldn't do my current job. I went to LV-PITA to learn computers, and loved it so much, when I was given an opportunity to work there, I said YES! They really care about the students, and you can feel the positive energy when you walk in the door. What they do for the disabled is so important. Now I get to help others in my situation get their skills too". Chona is a Student Support Representative, and is usually one of the first people you will talk to when you call in. She is a joy to be around and very positive.

Courses are offered during the day and evenings, with session running from 8-12 noon, 1-5 pm or 6-10 in the evenings. Most classes run Monday through Friday. They are licensed by the Commission on Post Secondary Education.
