Irell & Manella’s John Hueston Honored with the Marcus Kaufman Jurisprudence Award

Litigation Partner at Irell & Manella Receives Marcus Kaufman Jurisprudence Award

PRLog - May 8, 2012 - John Hueston, a litigation partner in the Los Angeles and Newport Beach offices of Irell & Manella, has been selected to receive the Anti-Defamation League's (ADL) Marcus Kaufman Jurisprudence Award. Hueston will be honored at the ADL's Annual Jurisprudence Awards Dinner on Tuesday, May 8 at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach.

Since 1993, the Anti-Defamation League, Orange County/Long Beach Region, has bestowed the Marcus Kaufman award on attorneys who make outstanding contributions to the legal profession and to the community. The award is given each year in memory of Supreme Court Justice Marcus M. Kaufman for his exceptional work and commitment to the legal community and to the Orange County Judiciary. The honorees are selected by an esteemed committee of jurists and prior Marcus Kaufman Award recipients. The committee strives to identify individuals who are role models in the legal community and exemplify the ADL's mission in their profession and in the community.

Hueston serves as co-chair of Irell & Manella's White Collar Criminal Defense practice and is a member of the firm's Executive Committee. He has extensive jury trial experience and has served as lead trial counsel for Fortune 500 companies and governments in a variety of cases involving securities and shareholder class action, patent litigation, trademark infringement and environmental matters, as well as cases alleging unfair business practices. The American Lawyer magazine has recognized Hueston as one of the nation's "Top 50 Young Litigators," and California Lawyer magazine has named him the "California Attorney of the Year." As former lead prosecutor for the Enron trial of Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling, Hueston also devotes a substantial part of his practice to internal investigations, corporate crisis management and white collar criminal defense. He has received the highest award bestowed by the U.S. Attorney General and has been specially commended by the National Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, the F.B.I., the I.R.S. and U.S. Customs for his performance as the lead trial attorney in fraud, tax and public corruption trials.

In addition to his practice, Hueston is involved in numerous professional and community activities. He is the immediate past-president of the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) and is president of the OCBA Charitable Fund. He is also a member of the Steering Committee of the California Open Courts Coalition, which seeks restoration of court funds. He is the former president of the Federal Bar Association of Orange County. In addition, Hueston served as a transition team member for California Attorney General Kamala Harris and as a member of her Mortgage Fraud Task Force.
