May 8, 2012 - PRLog -- A Centennial Campus publication highlighting the progress of NC State University's research park and technology campus recently received an Award of Excellence by the International Academy of Visual Arts (IAVA).

The publication was selected in the annual report category in the Communicator Awards competition. Overall, more than 6,000 entries from ad agencies, graphic design firms, and public relations companies competed for awards in the different categories.  Entries are scored on a 100 point scale by the judges. Excellence winners receive a score of 90 or above.

The publication, called "Bridging," was designed by Mellonaid, a strategic communications and design agency located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Ben Schwabauer, the firm's creative director, designed the piece.

The publication also received a local bronze award in recent local Addy Awards competition, which was sponsored by the RTP chapter of the American Advertising Federation.

"We are thrilled to have won these awards," said Gene Pinder, director of marketing and communications for Centennial Campus. "This is an important publication for us since it showcases all of the various developments, activities and partnerships that have occurred in the past several years. We wanted a piece that highlights those efforts in a highly visual manner and Mellonaid just nailed it for us."

According to Pinder, the report uses the metaphor of a bridge throughout the piece to reinforce how Centennial Campus connects different stakeholders and ideas to help facilitiate and drive economic development. One section, for example, highlights some of the entrepreneurial activities on campus, such as the opening of a student incubator and the awarding of an endowment fund dedicated to seed funding promising new technologies. Another section focuses on how Centennial "bridges" scientific discovery with "real-world" results by showcasing NC State researchers.
