May 7, 2012 – Salem, MA  –  The Psychedelic Furs will be performing on Saturday, May 26th, 7 pm at the Salem Performing Arts at The Catholic Center on St. Peter’s Street in historic Salem, MA.  Tickets are available at TicketFly.com for $30/$35.

So, how in the world is a renowned band like the Psychedelic Furs playing a  small former catholic school in the Witch City?  Ask Stu Ginsburg of Platorum Entertainment and he will tell you, “Salem used to be a tour stop for many performing artists like Stevie Ray Vaughn and The Ramones. The fact that we no longer have a single standing theatre is quite sad.  There are many talented musicians out there that would love to come to Salem. We’re starting to make that happen by booking shows in the City of Peace.  Rather than having to drive into Boston or sit in a large, packed venue with high ticket prices we will be able to provide more intimate shows with some amazing talent.  The Furs are the first.”

If you sit and talk to many of the alternative rock artists dominating today’s music, you’ll find that many of them pay homage to the The Psychedelic Furs. Led by front man and songwriter Richard Butler, the Furs won over fans and critics in the 70’s and 80’s by combining poetic lyrics, innovative rhythms and melodies driven by an aggressive, punk desperation. Through it all, the band scored major hits with "Love My Way," "Pretty In Pink," "Heaven," "The Ghost In You," and “Heartbreak Beat” in all releasing seven studio albums and spawning several compilations, a boxed set, and a live concert DVD.

The Psychedelic Furs came together in England 's emerging alternative scene in 1977. Forming members Richard Butler (vocals) and Tim Butler (bass guitar) continue to tour around the world with current lineup Rich Good (guitar), Mars Williams (saxophone), Amanda Kramer (keyboards), and Paul Garisto (drums). Long time local rockers, Pop Gun, will be the opening act, in support of Salem’s vibrant music scene.

But this show is more than just an 80’s trip down memory lane with one of the world’s famous bands.  A portion of the proceeds will be going to Salem Children’s Charity which provides emergency funds and basic needs for children in the Salem school system.  The Charity moves quickly and anonymously providing money for clothing, food, and emergency assistance without the red tape.  For more information, visit their website at www.salemchildrenscharity.org.

“Our mission is twofold – to help a lot of kids in our community, especially families burdened with disabilities and severe illness, and to help promote Salem as the hub of the North Shore for entertainment, art, and dining.  Salem has so much going for it. With over twenty live music venues, it really is the Cambridge of the North Shore.”

Tickets for the Psychedelic Furs are available online at www.TicketFly.com or at Pamplemousse, 185 Essex St, Salem, MA.
