National and local leadership and members of Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) will accompany the youth at meetings. Meanwhile, across the county, PDA members will email and call their Representative and Senators to demand strong action to avert climate change. Highlights include these events at these times and places: Wednesday, May 9, 2012 (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)--Meetings with Senators and Congress members. House and Senate Office Buildings. Thursday, May 10, 2012 (8:00 to 10:00 p.m.)--Reception and film at Bus Boys and Poets, 1025 5th St. NW (at K St) Washington D.C. Friday, May 11, 2012 (8:30 a.m.) Rally outside courthouse featuring Youth Activist/Plaintiff Alec Loorz and Author/Activist David Swanson. Attorneys representing Kids vs. Global Warming in the lawsuit Alec L v. Jackson will argue that the Federal Atmospheric Trust Lawsuit should not be dismissed, U.S. District Court, Courtroom 17, 333 Constitution Ave. NW #6822, Washington, D.C. Alec Loorz, 17-year-old high school student, named plaintiff in Alec L v. Jackson, and founder of Kids vs. Climate Change says,"It's our future we are fighting for, it's our survival that's at stake. I feel like we just have the authority to look past any politics and financial talk and really get to what this is really about. We have the authority to say, 'this is about our survival, this is about our future, does our future matter to you?'" PDA National Director Tim Carpenter says, "PDA has focused on Stopping Global Warming since our founding in 2004. No issue reveals more clearly the flaws of the U.S. political-economic system than global warming. Greed and corporate power dominate the public good, and impose nearsighted focus on short term profits instead of serving our long-term needs and the welfare of future generations." PDA Communications Coordinator Mike Hersh says, "Reliance on limited, increasingly expensive and environmentally damaging carbon-based energy is causing irreparable harm. Mountain-top coal mining, toxic hydro-fracturing (fracking), oil shale mining, oil sands exploitation, and similar extraction, transportation, refining and other processes impose unacceptable risks. The public strongly supports decisive action to save the planet from climate change."
