Viscera Film Festival Makes Toronto Debut

Projection Booth’s Monthly Series “Fright Nights” Plays Host to All-Female Horror Movie Festival

May 7, 2012 - PRLog -- After screening at museums, universities, art galleries and cinema houses internationally, Viscera Film Festival is finally coming to Toronto on Tuesday, May 15th at 8pm as part of the Projection Booth (1035 Gerrard Street East) monthly horror series “Fangoria Presents Fright Nights.”

The Viscera Film Festival is a non-profit effort dedicated to showcasing the fearsome creations of female filmmakers from across the world, with a mandate to create and expand opportunities for contemporary female horror filmmakers by raising awareness about the changing roles for women in the film industry.

“Viscera has been wanting to come to Toronto for some time now and Curio Media is thrilled to make this a reality, bringing this city's great film fans a truly unique showcase of new and emerging genre talents,” explains AdaPia d'Errico, Co-Founder of Curio Media Inc.

The two-hour Viscera line-up of short films will include “Aftershock” by Lori Bowen, “Box” by Nikki Wall, and “Together” by Gigi Romero. Filmmakers Dara Jade Moats of “Adventure Girls” and Karen Lam of “Doll Parts” will be in attendance for a special  Q&A along with author and host of popular web series “Fright Bytes” Lianne Spiderbaby, filmmaker and former editor of Rue Morgue Magazine Jovanka Vuckovic, and Fangoria editor Chris Alexander.  The in-depth and interactive discussion about women, horror and the film industry will be moderated by film writer and Fright Nights Host Kelly Michael Stewart.

“Fright Nights and Projection Booth have worked with some truly great filmmakers and projects, but to have an all-female line-up of directors laying down their work in one presentation is a rare treat for our city,” enthuses Stewart.

Tickets to the festival are $10, but for just $5 more, horror fans can also enjoy a special presentation of Karen Lam’s gory feature “Stained,” watching the film with the filmmaker herself at 6pm.
