Bothersome Cat Behaviors Explained And Treated

The Humane Society of America's new census shows cat ownership at an all-time high with over 86.2 million cats reported. Owners spent an average of $218 on vet bills, with scratching and clawing being a good portion.

May 4, 2012 - PRLog -- The Humane Society Of America's 2012 statistics show that currently there are approximately 86.4 million cats owned in the United States with fifty-two percent of households owning at least two cats. Cat owners were found to have spent an average of $219 on routine and annual veterinary visits. A new website seeks to curb some of that by making sure cats have access to proper outlets for their scratching and clawing behaviors.

"Many people keep their cats inside and don't realize that scratching and clawing at the furniture is a sign not only of marking behavior, but also a health need for felines" said Cathy L. "A cat sheds excess skin and nail material by scratching and also stretches the tendons and muscles needed for hunting and jumping. Trust me, they don't do it to be mischievous. By using the proper type of cat scratcher or cat post they can eliminate their cats doing it to expensive furniture and belongings".

With over twenty-one percent of cats being adopted from shelters, early training is not always an option, so having some sort of outlet for these behaviors is deemed essential to a cat's health and well-being. A quick search of the net shows that there are over 32 million pages dealing with the subject of problem cat scratching.

A new website http://catscratcherz.com dealing with cat scratching fixes is free to access and offers anyone a chance to share some of Cathy L.'s personal and detailed knowledge on the subject.
