May 4, 2012 - PRLog -- A second batch of dog food has been recalled due to Salmonella contamination by Missouri-based Diamond Pet Foods, the same company whose mold contaminated food killed dozens of dogs in 2005. This latest recalled product was produced in the same facility in South Carolina where the deadly pet food was produced years ago.

The recall includes one production run of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Adult Light Formula dry dog food, of which one bag tested positive for Salmonella. Bags with the following production codes are being withdrawn from the market as a precautionary measure:

--Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul 35 lb. CLF0102B31XCW 27/JAN/2013, CLF0102B32XWR 28/JAN/2013
--Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Adult Light Formula 35 lb. CLF0102B31XCW 28/JAN/2013
--Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul 6lb. CLF0102B3XALW 28/JAN/2013

So far no illnesses relating to the pet food have been reported.

“Microbial contamination of pet food is a serious, because it puts both pets and the people who handle their food at risk for disease,” states EMSL Analytical’s National Food Microbiology Supervisor, Joy Dell’Aringa, M.S., R.M. (N.R.M.), C.F.S.P. “EMSL offers a wide variety of food microbiology testing services—including Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli, and mold, among others—using validated testing methodologies and advanced techniques.”
