Lattimore Honored for Exemplary Contributions to South Carolina School

May 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Greenville, SC --  Upstate businessman Ray Lattimore, President and CEO of Marketplace Staffing, has been named an inaugural recipient of Greenville Tech Charter High School’s Charter Champion Warrior Award, presented to “exemplary contributors” to the award winning public high school.

Also honored at the first-time ceremony, held April 26, 2012 at the Greenville Hilton, were recipients Hayne Hipp, Dr. Anthony Johnson and Carl Sobocinski.

“We are especially delighted to honor these great leaders in our community,” says GTCHS Principal Fred Crawford. “In addition to contributing gifts of time and resources to our school, they remain exemplars and role models for our students in terms of their work ethic, character and integrity in their community and professional endeavors. Students need positive community role models, and these four gentlemen represent leadership at its very best. GTCHS is most grateful for their continued interest and involvement in the life of our school.”
A native of Greenville, South Carolina, Lattimore began a 15-year professional career with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company before founding Marketplace Staffing in 1996.   A Liberty Fellow and graduate of both Leadership South Carolina and Leadership Greenville, he has earned the Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR) credential, and is active on numerous boards and in multiple organizations across the Southeast. An entrepreneur at heart, he also has founded numerous additional businesses in the services and healthcare arenas.

He holds a B.A. degree in Business Administration from Southern Wesleyan University and has received Advanced Management Training from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.  A frequent writer and speaker at conferences and gatherings, he shares life-tested strategies on how to turn entrepreneurial dreams into successful businesses.  Mr. Lattimore is also renowned for his long-standing commitment to helping develop minority businesses.

GTCHS is the first charter school in South Carolina to win the coveted Blue Ribbon School Program national award, and has earned Excellent report card ratings for six consecutive years, Palmetto Gold Awards for the past five years and was designated as one of the top 15 charter schools in the nation by the U.S. Department of Education.  

With an enrollment of 420 students in grades 9-12, the school offers an academically rigorous four-year program based on Mastery and Project Based Learning.  Teachers use state-of-the-art technology and resources, and the school expects parental involvement at a minimum of one hour per week, 50 hours of community service for every student each year, project-based learning that is competency-based, and a capstone senior project or complete an internship prior to graduation.
