PRLog - May 4, 2012 - AUBURN, Mass. -- Piezo transducers and piezo motors can solve many problems encountered by traditional motors and motion components.  They are more compact, provide higher force output and since they neither create electromagnetic interference, nor are they influenced by it, eliminating the need for magnetic shielding.  This feature is particularly important for motors used within strong magnetic fields, such as those seen in MRI equipment.  

Life-sciences and equipment engineered for medical applications have a variety of different requirements for motion control, spanning a spectrum from complex high-precision positioning systems to reliable, low-cost, and compact drive components with ultra-low power consumption. Since progress goes hand in hand with continuous miniaturization and demand for higher speed and throughput, piezoceramic transducers and mechanisms can satisfy many of these requirements.   Originally developed for sonar applications and nanometer-precision motion control , piezoelectric transducers principles are highly adaptable to new configurations and applications.
