The Al Khair Foundation has been raising money for worthy causes since 2003 and in 2010 was presented with the Just Giving ‘Most Successful Fundraiser’ award for their efforts. Using teams of dedicated workers and volunteers they have visited countries around the world and provided people with fresh drinking water, new housing and even built schools in the wake of some of the worst natural disasters. Their efforts concentrate on Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation, Education, Media and UK Community work.
The trip began in John O’Groats. Imam Qasim and Danny from More Adventure set off in pleasant weather with an entourage of two Land Rovers, a support vehicle and a sleeper coach. Over the next thirty days they zigzagged the length and breadth of the UK visiting thousands of Al Khair supporters along the way. In each city Imam Qasim gave talks about his journey but also the fantastic work that Al Khair do on a daily basis. Some of the key stopovers en route were Betty Hill, Lairg, Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dumfries, Blackburn, Bradford, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Coventry, Milton Keynes, London, Brighton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Exeter, Plymouth and finally, Lands End.
The trip ended in Lands End on the 21st July. It was a momentous occasion with a live broadcast from Imam Qasim as he reached the famous landmark on two wheels. Although this was a bespoke John O’Groats to Lands End cycle (http://www.moreadventure.co.uk/
