I HEART SHAKEY
Jono Manson, the writing partner of John Popper and another contributor to the soundtrack had this to say about his experience, "Working on music for "I Heart Shakey" was a true pleasure for me. An experience filled with positive energy, and that's what this move is all about. With each scene, I really began to feel connected to the characters and their stories. I can't wait to watch the whole thing with my own little girl, who is a REAL dog lover."
Jonathan Clay, whose music can also be heard on the new Demi Moore/Miley Cyrus film LOL, feels that “'Shakey' leaves an impression on your sense of compassion. The movie portrays a kind of bond we can all relate to.” This bond Jonathan speaks of extended to musicians developing collaborations of their own outside the film, including Jono Manson working with “American Idol” runner-up Crystal Bowersox on her new album. Crystal is the wife of another of our talented songwriters, Brian Walker.
Brian Walker and Chicago based indie pop quartet, Purple Apple, both have 3D music videos of their songs from the film that will be released mid-May.
Director Kevin Cooper sought out musicians personally to collaborate with him on his film saying, “Every one of our musicians proved to be amazing, helping me tell the story using music. My goal was to use music in a creative way to immerse the audience in the film, similar to my use of 3D technology.”
"I Heart Shakey" stars Steve Lemme (Broken Lizard comedian, Super Troopers, Beerfest), Steve Guttenberg (Police Academy franchise), Beverly D’Angelo (National Lampoon’s Vacation movies), Alfonso Arau (Three Amigos), 12 year old acting phenom Rylie Behr and a rescue dog named Ebony.
This indie film can be characterized as “the little engine that could....” With 95% of independent films never making it to a video release, and an even higher percentage of films never getting a theatrical release, this indie is beating the odds and paving a new path for other filmmakers with its technology and musical prowess.
"I Heart Shakey" tells the story of a widower, his 9 year-old daughter and their devoted mutt Shakey. The film follows this family of three as they move from a small town to Chicago and are forced to get rid of their dog, who wreaks havoc in their new apartment building. It is a simple heart warming story geared toward kids and families that focuses on the importance of loyalty and keeping the family together.
Talent from the film will attend the film’s Red Carpet Premiere Screening on June 13th in Chicago. "I Heart Shakey" will be released in theatres and On Demand June 29th by Phase 4. Spotlight Pictures will handle international distribution.
