May 3, 2012 - PRLog -- The Society of Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) is hosting “The Way We Eat: Looking Beyond Nutrients to Help Clients Build Better Diets,” a live webinar on Monday, May 14 from 2:00 – 3:15 p.m. EST. Sponsored by Dairy Council of California, the webinar will outline how our “food landscape” has changed over the past 50 years and list the nine roles that food plays in our lives. Presenting during the webinar are registered dietitian and author Laura Thomas, MED, RD, LD; cultural anthropologist Polly Adema, PhD; and Mary Young, MS, RD, Senior Food and Nutrition Strategist for Edelman Public Relations.

As a result of attending the webinar participants will learn how these factors are inextricably linked to food choices, and how successful dietary advice needs to incorporate social, cultural, ethical, environmental, emotional as well as physical factors. Specific food examples will be used to illustrate how foods can fulfill multiple roles. The session will end with counseling strategies that the health professional can use to incorporate the factors influencing food choices that motivate their client, affecting positive behavior change to the ultimate goal of improving their health.

This webinar is free for members of SNEB. Non-member attendees are $25 although Dairy Council of California will be underwriting the cost for the first 200 non-member attendees. Attendees will earn 1 CPEs from the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Register at http://www.sneb.org/events/events.html.
