SimplySocial is founded by young Anchorage entrepreneur, Tyler Arnold, with a global team including Jeroen Erne from the Netherlands and Valentin Bora from Romania. All three of the founding partners have successfully run previous businesses.
"This guy could be the next Bill Gates," says Allan Johnston, a local financial adviser who invested in the business last fall with eight others including Rick Nerland, Chris Swalling, Mark Moronell, and Eric McCallum. The founding team came together through Tyler's previous business that he founded in high school.
Jeroen Erne, SimplySocial's COO, mentioned "Our co-founding team has an average age of just 22-and-a-half years, representing three countries across two continents. On the other hand, our investors bring over 270 years of combined business experience to our company, so it's a really dynamic environment to work in."
SimplySocial plans on using Alaska as a launch pad to the rest of the world. "If we can make this business work here," says founding CEO Tyler Arnold, "then we can make it work anywhere." The company plans on launching with a limited number of exclusive licenses.
This startup was aided by the successful passing of House Bill 252 (later Senate Bill 23) in the House and Senate in Juneau earlier this year, which allows like-minded tech startups and high growth companies to be exempt from Alaska State Corporate Income Tax. "We thank the Alaskan Legislature for creating a part in building a new Alaskan experience,"
"SimplySocial is exactly the kind of business that AEDC hoped would take advantage of these incentives and I think that SimplySocial's CEO, Tyler Arnold, represents a new breed of Alaskan entrepreneur that will be on the leading edge of transforming Alaska's economy" added Jon Bittner, Director of Business and Economic Development at the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation who also supported the bill.
