I own and love a Kindle 2 and I purchased a Fire for an upcoming vacation so that I could watch movies on the plane and to be able to get on the internet. I must say I love my new Fire more than I thought I would. I thought I would only use it now and then and that I would still read on my Kindle 2 but that hasn't been the case. Once I dimmed the screen for nighttime reading I was quite happy with it. My only "complaint" is that I wish the battery charge lasted longer but for the most part I am quite happy with it.

I got mine refurbished and its the deal of the century. First of all what a great little big machine. I ordered mine one afternoon and had it the very next day with the Amazon prime. I watch videos, play games, check my email and read kindle books. In conjuction with the Amazon prime and cloud access, the kindle blows the nook out of the water. I have also a Nook which is a good and comparable tablet but I did not like that nook books and apps are more expensive. Also, the lending program not any good (you have to know people who have Nooks and willing to lend you a book) and the library checkout is a lot more complicated. I love my kindle, I can buy or borrow one book a month or check out library books almost instantly. I gave the Nook to my kids but they also prefer the Kindle fire. I cant tell that mine is refurbished.

First off, I would like to state that I love this Kindle. It's sleek, pretty fast, great for videos and pictures, and of course, reading books in multiple file formats. The Kindle versions of books have the benefit of searching the text for keywords, highlighting and bookmarking, as well as a little social network sharing. That being said, most people who buy this are going to want to "root" the device, since it doesn't come with the ability to shop from the Android store, so there's no apps on it like Facebook, YouTube, Dropbox, etc. Once you figure out how to root the device and have the proper files installed, you'll be able to transfer anything you want via a micro USB cord (also not included) to the internal storage. I was able to get a micro USB cord off of eBay for a few buck, including shipping. One of the really cool things I found out is that Amazon has a ton of free, classic Kindle ebooks that transfer to your device for free via Amazon Whispernet. A lot of free classics and out-of-copyright, pre-1923 books.

recieved my kindle as a Christmas gift from my parents this past year and even thought it is March it looks like new. They are so easy to work and use. I love how easy it is to keep nice and clean. The app store has a great selection. Only one thing I did not like was that Amazon Prime is quite expensive and you only get it free for a month. I liked the fact I could get a lot of tv shows and movies. Some nights I would get bored and want to watch a tv. It would usually be to late to go up to the gas station so I would get rent a movie on the Amazon Prime free list. It has great screen quality when reading a book. The only thing I dislike is that I cannot buy Amazon gift cards in Illinois.
