Vision Solutions to Sponsor Scholarship, Present at COMMON 2012 Annual Meeting and Exposition

Experts to address designing and implementing high availability solutions in virtualized environments

May 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Irvine, Calif. – April 23, 2012 – Vision Solutions, Inc., the world’s leading provider of information availability software and services for IBM Power Systems, Windows, Linux and Cloud Computing markets, today announced it will participate in the upcoming COMMON 2012 Annual Meeting and Exposition, May 6-9 in Anaheim, California. Four technical experts from Vision Solutions will present several insightful sessions and the company will provide a $1,500 scholarship to the COMMON Education Foundation.

The annual meeting is COMMON’s largest educational event of the year, with four full days of in-depth IBM i and AIX education including pre-conference workshops, open labs and a wide variety of sessions. The event incorporates leading-edge IBM i, AIX, and Linux-related education courses and experts will be on-hand to answer questions throughout the conference, which is also designed to facilitate networking with fellow technical colleagues.

Additionally, Vision Solutions will sponsor a $1,500 scholarship through the COMMON Education Foundation (CEF), a separate non-profit organization that fosters the development and growth of IT educators, institutions, and professionals to create, manage, and support the computing systems of the future.

Highlights:
COMMON 2012 participants can meet with Vision Solutions at booth at 314. Vision representatives will provide live demonstrations of products and experts will be available to answer questions about the company’s technology and latest releases and enhancements.

Presenting at COMMON are the following Vision Solutions experts:
Ferenc Gyurcsan, a senior member of Vision Solutions’ product team and an expert in the business continuity arena with a focus on AIX and Linux solutions, will present four sessions at COMMON.

Following is a list of his sessions:
• Monday, May 7, 2012: 8:00 AM-9:15 AM, Safari (Disneyland Hotel), AIX Operating System Foundations  
This session provides a high level technical overview of the AIX operating system on Power Systems from a system administrator's point of view. The presenter discusses the concepts of logical volume management, network configuration, as well as user account and process management.

• Monday, May 7, 2012: 2:00 PM-3:15 PM, Safari (Disneyland Hotel), Disaster Recovery and Business Resiliency on AIX
The presenter will discuss business resiliency and disaster recovery best practices on the AIX platform and provide an overview of the business drivers and factors to be considered on the road of business resiliency, followed by a survey of high availability, disaster recovery and virtualization solutions currently available on the market for AIX, as they relate to business resiliency

• Tuesday, May 8, 2012: 2:00 PM-3:15 PM, Safari (Disneyland Hotel), AIX and Power Virtualization Complements HA/DR for Business Continuity
This session discusses how the various virtualization capabilities of the Power Systems hardware and AIX operating system can be utilized to complement high availability and disaster recovery architectures to provide an enhanced level of business continuity.

• Wednesday, May 9, 2012: 9:30 AM-10:45 AM, Castle C (Disneyland Hotel) AIX Continuous Data Protection and Disaster Recovery with Double-Take Availability from Vision Solutions – Concepts and Best Practices and LAB: AIX Disaster Recovery and Continuous Data Protection in Action – Double-Take Availability for AIX from Vision Solutions  

Attendees will be able to gain a thorough understanding of what Continuous Data Protection is and how it is utilized for disaster recovery, as well as of the value and benefits this technology can add to traditional data backup and recovery solutions. Best practices to follow when implementing and maintaining a CDP solution in a data center will also be discussed.

John Vriezen, a senior architect for Vision Solutions, will present two sessions.  John initially spent 10 years at IBM’s Rochester Development Lab, working primarily on AS/400 and iSeries Database and Journaling components.

This session reveals how Vision Solutions uses modern off-the-shelf tools and some custom software development tools to be able to reliably deliver and support software for a large customer base.  

• Tuesday, May 8, 2012: 5:00 PM-6:15 PM, Safari (Disneyland Hotel), The Anatomy of IBM i Logical Replication
This session will ask participants to consider common questions about IBM logical replication, such as: What about objects that can't be journaled?  What about objects that are dynamically created, renamed or deleted, and then created again?  What happens when replication software isn't able to replicate due to locks on objects or records?  And how can you know that your replicated objects are 'in sync' when they are actively being changed by your applications?

Mary Lieser, Senior Manager at Vision Solutions will present one session. Mary’s team is responsible for the design and development of the user experience for Vision Solutions Portal.

Tips for keeping your sanity while managing multiple projects, products and teams.

Dennis Schmidt, Senior Architect and Lead Designer at Vision Solutions, will also present one session. He is responsible for the user interfaces of strategic products.
