Follow on Google News | Alex Suescun Receives Special Recognition At International Nature Art CompetitionA night tarpon fishing scene from a former pro angler stood strong against fierce competition from more than 200 nature artists, and earned special honors for the emerging South Florida artist at his very first juried art competition.
Initially the competition only offered awards for 1st through 5th place, but due to the high volume and the outstanding quality of the artwork submitted, the organizers also added 5 Honorable Mention awards, plus a group of Special Recognition awards. The official press release from the Light Space & Time gallery explained that “any of the artists in the Special Recognition group could have easily been included in the upper rank of the winning entries, as their art was also exceptional.” South Florida marine artist, Alex Suescun, was among those who received Special Recognition, and Full Moon Platoon, the piece that earned him such honors, is being showcased in the gallery’s latest online slide show, which features the top artwork entered in the competition. Suescun, a former pro tournament angler and TV fishing show host, was very excited when he heard the news. "This is a great honor, and it's wonderful for any new artist to have early success. It just let's you know that you are on the right track." he added. But most people associate him with Tarpon Bay Tales (the popular TV fishing show that he hosted and produced for 10 seasons), and with the Redfish Cup (a saltwater tournament series that aired on ESPN), where Suescun competed from 2003 to 2009.
