Services Etcetera of Hazleton, a local carpet cleaning and janitorial firm, was twelfth in the state to become certified when the program was established and recently renewed their certification through the Department of Labor & Industry. In addition to monetary savings the employer of 10 full and part time workers is proud to have suffered only one small lost time accident in over two decades.
According to estimates from “The National Safety Council”, for every $1 of direct costs spent on a lost time injury, between $4 and $8 is spent on indirect costs such as lost or spoiled production, damaged equipment, worker retraining and accident investigation. Employers experience more than just monetary savings as workers become more alert and aware of their surroundings. “There is a definite boost in morale when employees become part of the process” explains the company’s general manager Robert G. Martin.
