Simi Valley Family YMCA Celebrates Healthy Kids Day During Simi Street Fair

May 1, 2012 - PRLog -- SIMI VALLEY, CALIF.--Families will be able to participate in a variety of free outdoor activities, games and crafts during the Simi Valley Family YMCA "Healthy Kids Day," Saturday, May 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event is held each year in conjunction with the Simi Valley Street Fair (Cochran Street between Galena and Sequoia).

   "With summer less than two months away, Healthy Kids Day gives parents ideas on how to keep their kids healthy and active during the summer months," says Diane Sanderson, Simi Y's membership director. "Studies show that kids gain weight during summer because many don't take part in as many outdoor activities as they do during the school year."

   The Simi Y is one of 1,900 YMCA hosting Healthy Kids Day in spring. With nearly one in three U.S. children overweight or obese, the national YMCA instituted Healthy Kids Day to encourage kids and parents to commit to keeping their bodies and minds active during the summer.
