Secret Service Personnel Scandal In Columbia Reignites Interest In The Concept Of The Female Spy

The concept of the female spy is not a new one, going back thousands of years. Adrianne Sainte Eve’s newest novel, 'Horizontal Collaborator', set during WWI, details the story of Violette, a rare female spy who becomes a double agent for France

May 1, 2012 - PRLog -- Author Adrianne Sainte Eve released ‘Horizontal Collaborator’ long before the news of the Columbian Secret Service scandal hit newswires. Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King addressed the risk of the actions of the Secret Service personnel in a recent interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN.  Adrianne Sainte Eve hoped to raise the interest level on the subject of female spies, but did not count on a modern day event being a catalyst for interest in the subject.

'Horizontal Collaborator' tells the tale of Violette, a rare female spy who engages in espionage for France during WWI. The main character in the new novel is reminiscent of Mata Hari. Adrianne Sainte-Eve is considered to be one of today's best spy authors and this newest book gives readers the opportunity to vicariously live the end of the Golden Age as the storyline follows female spy Violette on her journey from Madrid to Budapest and through the great Austro-Hungarian Empire.

“I wrote this book,” stated Sainte Eve, “as during WW1 the French and Germans regularly used women as espionage agents, thinking they had a natural talent for seduction and deception.  It is a little known fact that some of the best spies were women. This is proven by the reality that we know very little about them; most of their true identities were never discovered.“

In a review of ‘Horizontal Collaborator’, Allister Lang of All Books Considered stated, “Her characters are full of life and well thought out. Both bizarre and sublime, Sainte-Eve’s characters are geographically spread yet tightly connected. She seems to have gone to great lengths to research the social mores and class structures of that time period, which adds to the richness of her work. This novel was a pleasure to read. I’m looking forward to Sainte-Eve’s next book."

“Fans of female spy novels will enjoy this book,” stated Ms. Sainte Eve, “in that it is an insight into the personalities of the major players in the biggest drama of the century. We see that they are really just ordinary people who lived during the fall of the golden age and were driven by their circumstances, whether they are aristocrats or ordinary peasants.”
