PRLog - May 1, 2012 - ST. LOUIS -- Parents of Indian origin living outside of India struggle with ways to introduce Indian culture and language to their young ones. There are many options out there for toddler entertainment with puppets, animations, etc., but none focused in their ethnic Indian Culture and none in the Hindi language. Bollywood Baby – Choti Maya’s Colorful Birthday has two (2) language options, English and Hindi.
The force behind the DVD is a husband and wife team, Srikant Chellappa and Kelly O’Donnell. As parents of a bi-cultural child, they saw the struggle to keep the Indian culture alive in their household. They wanted their daughter to be exposed to as much of the Hindi language as possible. With options like “Dora the Explorer” on TV in Spanish, they thought “why not in Hindi”. So they created the DVD themselves.
Kelly says, “While my daughter was learning language, we showed her a lot of educational DVDs. When we tried to find DVDs in Hindi there were very limited options. We felt introducing Indian culture and language was very important at that young age. So we decided to create one ourselves - for all the parents like us!”
They collaborated with many talented people in the St. Louis area. Bollywood Shuffle, a popular Bollywood dance group led by Pallavi Chandak, incorporated Bollywood dance. Composer Daniel McGowan created original songs and music. And the artists from Design Deli, Scott Pondrom and Stephanie Nelson, created original sets and puppets. The result is a piece of art in itself!
