Senators Begich, Graham, and Lieberman to Provide Remarks at the CEE May 9th Congressional Luncheon

CEE welcomes Members of Congress, Celebrates the Center's Programs, and Highlights the success of the RSI and USABO Alumni

May 1, 2012 - PRLog -- McLean, VA) - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE), with sponsorship from General Dynamics and Purdue Pharma, will host its Annual Congressional Luncheon Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  The event will be held in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room 106, Washington DC.
Additional Members of Congress to make comments at the CEE event include:  Representatives Biggert (IL), Brooks (AL), Courtney (CT), Hultgren (IL), and McGovern (MA).  

The Center will provide a special tribute to Senator Joseph Lieberman for his many years of service as an Honorary Board Member to CEE.

The luncheon will celebrate the success of the Center’s Research Science Institute (RSI) offered in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO), collaboratively sponsored with Purdue University, and the Teacher Enrichment Program (TEP).  The event will also highlight the success of the alumni from the RSI and USABO programs.

“CEE’s outstanding alumni, and attention to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) initiatives are making a difference to assure a talented and diverse U.S. workforce,” said Joann P. DiGennaro, President of CEE.

The Research Science Institute , offered in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT,) is a six week summer enrichment program emphasizing advanced theory and research in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The USA Biology Olympiad, jointly sponsored with Purdue University, focuses on stimulating young scholars’ intellectual curiosity and developing their critical thinking skills in biological reasoning.


The Center recently launched the Teacher Enrichment Program (TEP) to assure a future talented and diverse U.S. workforce in STEM.  TEP is available at no cost to science teachers as well as teachers of humanities who are interested in broadening their perspective of interdisciplinary STEM in their classroom.
