May 1, 2012 - PRLog -- E-books have completely revolutionized how the younger generation views reading. These little electronic books have just about wiped out the value of a public library and with technology improving everyday one can’t help but ask “What will they think of next”. We took this opportunity to ask the opinion of Damien Croft of DCM, who said, “I am in total support of e-books. Not to sound cliché but they are fun and quirky and young children prefer to use e-books than pick up an actual book. We were all kids once we all know that unless it’s seen as popular young children will hesitate to take part and e-books are very popular at the moment.”

Microsoft has now invested $300m in a digital venture with US bookseller Barnes and Noble. The deal could make Barnes and Noble's Nook e-book reader available to millions of new customers, integrating it with the Microsoft's new Windows 8 operating system. It will house the bookseller's digital and college education book businesses. The MD of DCM understands that this project is limitless and with the correct investment and growth plan this will revolutionise the education system. “Only time will tell how this device will impact the younger generation,” continues the MD of DCM.

The deal with Microsoft has some in the industry in fear. Tim Coates, managing director of Bilbary, an e-book content provider said, “This deal with Microsoft could be the saviour of its digital division but won't help the bricks and mortar business; In fact it could accelerate its decline as publishers will be terrified of Barnes and Noble going digital only.” The Nook e-reader was launched in 2009 to compete with Amazon's Kindle, allowing users to buy, download and read digital versions of books and magazines. “Local libraries and book shops are struggling to compete in the digital e-book market. This market is becoming more competitive with technological advances and it’s vital for books stores to try and compete. DCM knows what its like to ensure their services stay at the top of their clients’ wish list. “If there is no need for your services your business will have to evolve and that’s exactly what books stores will have to do,” said a source at DCM.
