PRLog - May 1, 2012 - On Friday, May 4th, 2012 at 8:30pm The Philadelphia Poetry Slam and 150 enthusiastic poetry fans of all ages will open their stage to host and curator of the Friday Night Slam at the famous Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Mahogany L. Browne. The Philadelphia Poetry Slam will continue in its new home, the White Space at the Crane Old School, 1417 N. 2nd Street, in Northern Liberties. A special poetry workshop led by Browne begins at 7:30. Slam sign up begins at 8:30, and the show starts at 9pm sharp.
Philly Pigeon Small
Browne is a Cave Canem Fellow, the author of several books including Swag & Dear Twitter:Love Letters Hashed Out On-line, recommended by Small Press Distribution & listed as About.com Best Poetry Books of 2010.
She has released five LPs including the live album Sheroshima. Browne has toured Germany, Amsterdam, England, Canada and recently Australia. Her journalism work has been published in magazines Uptown, KING, XXL, The Source, Canada's The Word and UK's MOBO.
From 7:30 to 8:30pm, Browne facilitates a writing workshop that is free for attendees of The Pigeon Presents: The Philadelphia Poetry Slam. At 9, Browne performs original work, headlining the grand poetry slam, a competition between poets performing original work judged by members of the audience.

In addition to Browne's feature and the slam The Pigeon will spotlight local poet Seth Simons from UPENN's Excelano Project. "Seth is Philly's best kept secret, an incredible writer, performer and showman. We're excited to introduce him to a new audience."
