Ehenger took an interest in art during her childhood, thanks in large part to encouragement from her parents. She dedicated her spare time to drawing with pencils, chalk and charcoal. During her senior year at Willamina Union High School, she drew on her own patterns for copper embossing. Later in life she studied oil painting at a studio in Troutdale. Upon moving to Klamath Falls in 1968, she continued her studies under Cheryl Endicott.
Ehenger is active in United Christian Ministries, the Pregnancy Hope Center, American Citizens for Law and Justice, and Calvary Chapel of Klamath Falls. She is a member of the Klamath Art Association and the Society of Literary Designates, and holds a lifetime membership in the International Clover Poetry Association.
