Marfa Woman Receives International Award

PRLog (Press Release) - Apr. 30, 2012 - Kathie Compton, owner of mARFa Dog Training in Marfa, TX was the recipient of the 2012 Dog Division Award, given by the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) at their annual conference held this year in Warwick, RI.  Compton has formerly served the IAABC in the role of Vice President and has been a tireless supporter of IAABC, a professional organization for trainers and behavior consultants who specialize in various species of companion animals.

More recently, her work as President of Responsible Ownership of Marfa Pets (ROMP), a non-profit organization that works to provide community education programs and low-cost spay/neuter options in Presidio County, qualify her for this award.

ROMP exists to help the area’s 20 percent of community members who live below the poverty level access low-cost spay and neuter, when otherwise the nearest low-cost clinic is hundreds of miles away.

“While we have benefited from Kathie's willingness to serve our organization, no doubt the residents of her community, animal and human, win that much more,” said IAABC President, Sarah Filipiak.
