Follow on Google News | Message To Doctors: Help Your Patients Quit SmokingTobacco cessation group uses social media to empower doctors and patients to be smoke-free
The organization, a grant program of the New York State Tobacco Control Program in the Northeast, provides healthcare providers with on-site staff training on treating tobacco use and dependence using the evidence-based “5 A’s” model, provides current tobacco resource materials and literature, as well as the latest pharmacotherapies, and information on the New York State Smokers Quitline and Medicaid reimbursement programs. POW’R is among the first of the nineteen designated smoking cessation centers to initiate a strategic social media campaign to improve its online visibility and to connect more innovatively with healthcare providers. The new POW’R 2012 Social Media Outreach Campaign--themed “Help Your Patients Quit Smoking”--is already engaging the healthcare community. The Campaign includes integrated social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest, increased marketing content in the form of blog posts and e-newsletters, link building, and networking with professionals and groups through webinars and interactive events. “For years POW’R has been working with healthcare providers to deliver customized training sessions about tobacco cessation” said Dianna Raxworthy, Director of POW’R Tobacco Cessation Center. “Medical professionals have a great impact on helping people to quit smoking—they really do save lives. There are so many physicians, nurses, doctors, and other specialists who have a great desire to help their patients quit smoking, but they don’t know there is evidence-based assistance and free resources available to them. We know social media will be a new way to reach these busy professionals, and to ultimately see greater results in getting their patients to quit smoking.” End
