Sonitrol of Ft. Lauderdale's John Ray III Elected President of the Sonitrol National Dealer's Assoc.

April 30, 2012 - PRLog -- John Ray, III, president and CEO of Sonitrol of Fort Lauderdale, has been elected president of the Sonitrol National Dealers Association (SNDA).

Based in Orlando, Fla., the Association represents Sonitrol’s network of 60 dealers across the country who market and service the company’s fully integrated verified electronic security solutions.  

Under Ray’s leadership, a key SNDA goal will be educating the public about verified alarm technology’s ability to enhance police officers’ safety, conserve law enforcement resources and increase the odds of arrest while crimes are underway.  “Knowing that more than 90 percent of alarm activations nationwide are false alarms, 30 cities have enacted verified response laws in recent years,” Ray said.  

“With municipalities facing tough budget decisions, those laws are gaining popularity,” he added.  “They provide that police will only respond – or will give priority response -- to those alarms that are verified through audio or video monitoring, or confirmed by an eyewitness.”  Sonitrol’s unique verified audio intrusion detection technology as well as its video intrusion systems give law enforcement real-time certainty that a crime is underway, with details that help ensure police officers’ safety, such as the location and number of perpetrators.  

Ray has previously served as vice president and as regional director of SNDA.  He began his career in the electronic security industry with Sensormatic in 1990.  He purchased the Sonitrol of Fort Lauderdale franchise in 2001, and Sonitrol Corporation named his operation Franchise of the Year in 2006.  

He earned his BA and MBA degrees from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., and is a licensed electrical alarm contractor of the the State of Florida.  He is a member of the Alarm Association of Florida, the American Society of Industrial Security, the National Fire Protection Association and the Florida Crime Prevention Association.  

An active community leader, Ray has been president of the Executives’ Association of Fort Lauderdale and is a member of the Board of Governors for the Huizenga Business School at Nova Southeastern University, as well as serving on the Junior Achievement of South Florida Board of Directors.
