Munster Rugby players launch St. Luke’s Home Marathon appeal.

April 30, 2012 - PRLog -- The marathon will take place on June bank holiday Monday to raise funds for essential physiotherapy services at the nursing home.

The Munster players were joined by staff and clinicians from the home for the launch of the initiative which is part of St. Luke’s Home ‘Fit for Life’ programme which encourages its residents to be active and live life to the full.  St. Luke’s Home is a registered charity and the recently set-up St. Luke’s Home Foundation, which seeks ways to raise funds to enhance services to the elderly at the home, opened a state-of-the-art Education Centre and undertook considerable improvements to the facility last year.

According to Oonagh O’Driscoll, Director of Fundraising at St Luke’s Home; ‘We are so grateful to Stephen and Donnacha for launching this year’s campaign for us.  Last year those who ran for St. Luke’s Home in the Marathon raised valuable funds for a new bus for the Home, and this year’s project is aimed at providing essential physiotherapy services for those residents and day care clients that need it.  Our target is 60 teams of 5 people, and already members of our staff, clinicians, local companies and family and friends of our residents have signed up to participate. Whether you’re running in honour of a loved one who’s a resident at the home, in memory of someone special or simply to celebrate good health, we’re all in this together.  Physiotherapy is a very important resource for older people as it improves their strength, balance, mobility and overall fitness enabling them to maintain their independence and joie de vivre.’
