By: Carl Nagaitis, Bryher Business Partnership They used outdoor wood fires to heat and expand the iron bands before fixing them to the hand-made circular tables that had been ordered as a feature of the popular eaterie which overlooks the River Dee.. “Our team created a number of outdoor fires to prepare the heavy iron bands for fitting the tables,” said OAQ General Manager Mark Hambleton, speaking from the company’s Winsford HQ. “The work was carried out by our team at our St Asaph factory. “The tables were being sited on an outdoor terrace so we decided to use the strength of iron banding to make them particularly sturdy. Our team built a series of fires on land adjoining our St Asaph base to prepare the iron bands before using them to hold the tables together. “This method of banding goes back many years, at least until the middle of the 19th Century. The end result is a very handsome and very sturdy table. We were very pleased with the end result.” A spokesperson for Hickory’s said: “Yes the tables look great and are very sturdy indeed. As they are out on the terrace they need to be able to stand the weather.” For further information about Oaq Ltd click onto www.oaq-ltd.co.uk ENDS End
