April 28, 2012 - PRLog -- The Professional Institute of Technology recently graduated their first class of CMAA's in its Medical Office Specialist Program.

The Medical Office Specialist program focuses on helping individuals learn the skills to become a Medical Front Office Assistant, or a Medical Biller and Coder, or an Electronic Health Records Specialist.  The program is designed to help individuals learn the skills necessary for an entry level position, and then work up through an organization.

The first class of 9 students has all received the CMAA Certification (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant) and one student has already landed an internship and position!    Instructor Kate White is so proud of her students, and does her utmost to make sure her students get a real hands-on learning experience.

With all the changes in Healthcare, the need for trained professionals is continuing to grow.

With advent of the “Affordable Care Act” there is a growing need for qualified individuals within medical professions.  No longer will medical providers depend upon paper files for history and communication. Insurance companies  within the USA are driving the need to automate improving documentation and reducing undocumented/unnecessary disbursements.  Universities and community colleges are filling the gap to provide fully trained doctor and nursing professionals.

However, the need for certification within the administrative support systems is sending some individuals back to school. Indeed, this opportunity is driving some to seek training and certification.

This is where LV - PITA has accepted the challenge to train and certify qualified individuals and offer additional relevant courses to the Las Vegas job seekers.

Focusing mainly on the career changer and unemployed, LV-PITA also offers courses in Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, Medical, Accounting and Bookkeeping/Intuit and Adobe.    Their programs are designed for individuals who need to take more time to learn an application than an 8 hour course.

While they do offer some fast track courses and boot camp style training, it is not the focus of what they do. Director Laurie Clemens explains, “I have found that most career changers and people learning software for the first time, need the repetition of multiple sessions.  Plus with the added benefit of computer based learning, there are multiple formats for each person’s learning style.”

Since opening in 2009, the center has helped over 600 unemployed or career changers to learn software, and have succeeded in helping students find work.  Some students come in for a short two week course, and others are in school for up to a year or longer.
The center also focuses on helping individuals with disabilities and is involved with agencies that help the disabled such as Nevada Job Connect, Bureau of Vocational Services and the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Their Information Technology (IT) program works with many local Computer Hardware/Software Vendors and Technology companies to provide Internships and Job Placement Assistance.  Many of the previous students have landed very good jobs which help them to prosper and provide for their families.

Slade A, a student with LV-PITA states, "From the minute I walked into LV-PITA I knew I was at home.  Everyone was so nice and the instructors are fantastic.  They really make sure you learn the programs and not just the book, but hands on application so you can be successful on the job."

Mary, an Accounting & Bookkeeping student states, " I was nervous about changing careers and thought my previous background would fit with Accounting.  It had been so long since I was in a classroom, I was scared I might not do well.  Everyone was so caring and put up with me asking the same questions over and over!  Nobody ever made me feel bad".

Courses are offered during the day  and evenings, with session running from 8-12 noon, 1-5 pm or 6-10 in the evenings.  Most classes run Monday through Friday.  They are licensed by the Commission on Post Secondary Education.
