Along with her winning entry, Habieda Nowakowski also had two other entries accepted to the contest, and last year she was awarded best in class for Feature Album during the 2011 National Image Competition.
According to Tanya Thompson, executive director of the PPOC, just being accepted in the competition, let alone winning awards, proves that the artist has the ability to “produce above average images for their clientele.” This also gains Habieda Nowakowski merits towards her Craftsman of Photographic Arts title, and the prestigious Master of Photographic Arts designation.
The competition was judged by Master Photographers from across Canada, meaning that winning an award was no easy feat, because “you’re being judged by the best” photographers in the industry, says Habieda Nowakowski. Along with the wedding category, there were also best in class prizes awarded for general categories, commercial photography, and portraiture.
Winning this award is a great honour, says Habieda Nowakowski, because it means her artistic vision, her dedication, and her creative skills are being recognized by her peers. The competition is only open to PPOC members, and being awarded such a prize and gaining merits makes it all worthwhile, she says. When you win, “it pays for everything: the trouble, the effort,” she say. “It pays off for being a member.”
The award will be presented to her at the next meeting of the PPOC, which will take place in Ontario at the end of May.
Habieda Nowakowski is a Mississauga resident, and is the owner and operator of Fotografia Boutique, an Oakville photography and portrait studio that specializes in glamour sessions, as well as family and business portraits.
