Black Tide by john g rees wins 2012 Silver IPPY for HORROR

April 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Black Tide, published by Black Water Books, in Hawaii, was announced as the 2012 Silver IPPY Award winner for Horror by Independent Publishers today. Black Tide is a near future tale of the workings of an everyday salvage vessel and its inevitable crew of characters. It is a freaquel to his first two award winning horror novels, anoxic zone and Halocline.
  The Independent Publisher Book Awards were conceived in 1996 as a broad-based, unaffiliated awards program open to all members of the independent publishing industry.   With Black Tide,  john g rees takes us on a journey back in time with this third award -winning horror novel. Back in time to the beginning for Jake Strom, before he was forced into becoming a REUSEABLE for Megacorp and was still a 'normal' salvage diver.
Megacorps' quest for profits already left the planet, as a biosphere, crippled. Now it was doing the same thing to people’s mind’s. Siphoning off the skills they wanted to keep the planet running, Megacorp turned the rest of the population into domesticated consumers. Instant gratification ruined them, leaving behind a coke monkey mentality that was a button push away from satisfaction. And was one hell of a profit maker.  
  Men, like Jake, with their knowledge in their hands were being taken. The consumer mentality came at a cost. The virtual world was scarfing up everyone. No one wanted to be or to do anything anymore, outside the box that is. We had begun living a virtual existence. Unfortunately all the apps in the world can’t fix a leaky pipe.

  john g rees is an avid outlaw and martyr: born in the Midwest some half century ago to two soon-to-be morticians; much of his humor comes from is upbringing.
He has worked both SCUBA and Hard Hat Diving, Diving Underwater Salvage on many-sized ships – working the NW Hawaiian Islands, Guam, Midway and out of Pearl Harbor, on Navy vessels, some top secret. The repair of power plants, dock pilings and bridges underwater were his general construction.
  After the death of his father and that of a close friend, john found the release he was looking for and started writing. Black Tide is a prequel to his first two novels, anoxic zone and Halocline.
