Business Monitor International – Optimistic On The UK Economy

BMI remains far more optimistic on the outlook for the UK economy than many of their counterparts despite the poor Q112 growth figure. Aside from believing the figure is likely to be revised upwards, BMI anticipates a long-term Industrial renaissance

April 27, 2012 - PRLog -- In fact Business Monitor International have been saying for quite some time that “economic rebalancing” will see the high-end manufacturing sector strengthen further over the coming years. A structural devaluation of sterling on a trade weighted basis has improved the UK’s cost competitiveness, which will boost exports and attract more foreign investment. Furthermore, an increasingly competitive corporate tax structure, a flexible labour market and relative political stability combined with a sophisticated and supportive financial sector leaves the UK well positioned relative to the Eurozone over the longer term. The renewed focus on strategic planning and an emphasis on deregulation and re-skilling provide far more optimism than the anti-market rhetoric and blunt focus on austerity that has so far materialised elsewhere in Europe.

Although efforts thus far by the UK government to shift economic focus away from domestic consumption and towards investment and exports has failed to bear much fruit, this was always to be expected given that private sector deleveraging and rebalancing towards a new growth model is a multi-decade process. During the coming period of international economic adjustment, Business Monitor International  believes that the UK, along with the US, has the potential to be a major beneficiary of the changing global landscape. have been promoting this theme of a UK manufacturing renaissance since mid-2011.
