The square will open in ‘Olympics mode’ on July 26. Viewers will have the opportunity to watch the games, which start on July 27, on The Triangle’s big screen. The square will be decked out in Olympics colours. There will also be food and drinks stands and sports activities. CM3’s Managing Director commented further, “It’s going to be celebrated in a huge way, it’s really exciting to see preparations for events all over the UK going underway, it’s going to be incredible.”
Manchester’s city centre spokesman, Pat Karney, said: "Exchange Square is a perfect place to celebrate this city’s love of sport. It’s going to be one of the biggest celebrations we’ve seen. It will be like being at the Olympics itself." Coun Mike Amesbury, spokesman for sport and leisure, said: "This will bring the Olympics alive for Mancunians and reaffirm our position as a world capital of sport." Old Trafford is one of six major venues being used to host Olympics football. Nine matches will be played there including both a men’s and women’s semi-final. A source from CM3 said, “Old Trafford is one of the most iconic football stadiums in the world and it will be thrilling to watch footballing greats from all over the world compete for the gold medal.”
