Reminder to Sandoval & Roberson…You were elected to represent the will of the people, not yours!Nevada Governor Sandoval seeks deal with Amazon for internet sales tax, announces he will extend "sunset" taxes for the 2nd time with the help of Senator Michael Roberson. Both Sandoval and Roberson campaigned on no new taxes. Nevadans are outraged!
By: TRUNC In the LVRJ 4/24/2012: “Nevada voters in 2008 and 2010 overwhelmingly rejected ballot questions that would have made it easier for the Legislature to implement Internet sales taxes quickly if Congress ever permits states to collect such taxes”. Taxing Internet sales is a NEW tax whether they call it “sales tax” or “use tax”. The Governor has been spending his time chit-chatting with Amazon and looking for ways to soak the people yet again to raise millions. Wouldn’t a tax hike of this magnitude need to be authorized by the voters on the ballot per the Nevada Constitution?( The Governor is sticking his finger in the voters’ eyes AGAIN! Aren’t you sick and tired of politicians who believe they are wiser and their own opinion (and political career) is superior to that of the voters of our state? Aren’t you tired of Politicians who promise to work for us and then go against us? The Governor’s use of semantics and political spin when trying to explain the new taxes, whether it’s on the Internet sales tax or the sunset extension, is insulting to the people. It’s not only the new taxes but the idea that he puts us in the “stupid” category and thinks we are incapable of seeing through his faulty explanations. The voters agreed to bail-out the state and granted the so called Sunset taxes with the promise the taxes would expire! Hence the word SUNSET! If the voters had thought the legislature with the help of the Governor would renege on that agreement, they would not have granted the bail-out in the first place. Now the Governor has, all by himself, decided the sunset taxes will not “sunset” as the contract with the people required, but will be extended AGAIN! Those history buffs out there realize this is just another repeat of history. Most often than not, when a tax is implemented, it NEVER goes away, because politicians will ALWAYS find a way to spend the money and will ALWAYS find a way to justify the spending! Does anyone remember the Governor asking the voters about this? Did you get a call? You got those robo calls when he was campaigning to be elected right? Most of you even got those emails and “snail mail” requesting you to send Candidate Sandoval your hard earned money. Unfortunately the Governor won’t need your opinion again for two more years, when he will fire up his re-election campaign, so don’t count on a call until then. If you think about it, it doesn’t even seem legal. The voters granted the tax for a period of time at the ballot box with the requirement it would then go away on the agreed sunset date. It just seems to us the voters should be the ones to make the decision on the ballot again, just like the Nevada Constitution requires. The people made a deal, a contract if you will, at the voting booth and the Governor and the legislature voided that contract, made a new one and did not get the people to sign the new contract. And then there’s Senator Michael Roberson (R) who campaigned everywhere as a conservative Republican, stating we needed the $620 million in business and sales taxes to sunset! You could even find him at TEA Party rallies spouting his apparently rehearsed speeches against taxes. Remember? The icing on the cake is that Roberson went against the Clark County Republican Party’s decision to not endorse candidates in the primary. We really need to understand the significance of that unilateral decision by Roberson and the Senate Caucus. Here’s the history: the Clark County Republican Party as a whole debated the issue and the Central Committee overwhelmingly voted that the party will NOT endorse candidates in the primary. Roberson, who enjoyed the support of the Clark County Republican Party at that time, is well aware of how the members voted. Now he has decided to shaft the very Republican Party who helped him get elected. Roberson reportedly feels the Republican Senate Caucus is independent of the Republican Party and now that he is elected, there is no need to actually uphold what the party stands for while at the same time he still likes to use the [R] behind his name. Senator Roberson needs to be reminded that the title “Senator” was lent to him by the people to uphold their values and beliefs. Simply using the [R] behind your name is no longer acceptable to the people. If you wanna use the [R] behind your name, you gotta act like an (R), you gotta vote like an [R] and ya gotta respect what the [R] stands for. Getting together in small meetings and dictating who will be on the ballot is an extreme violation of trust by Roberson, who promised to represent the Republican Party and the people he is now ignoring. If we examine his anointed candidates, we find NONE of them has signed the Tax Payer Tax Pledge. This is by design, as Roberson has cozied up to the Governor and his tax hikes. Senator Roberson is only supporting candidates who will vote FOR the Governor’s taxes. Also widely reported is that Roberson is maneuvering to claim the title of “Senate Majority Leader”. Of course, the word “Majority” The bottom line is that if you are a Republican and stand for the Republican Party platform, you’re NOT going to want to vote for the candidates that the Roberson-led Senate Caucus is endorsing. It’s plain and simple. Instead, support those candidates who have signed the Tax Payer’s Pledge against new taxes! If they haven’t signed the pledge, it means they are lining up to vote for the Governor’s tax ambitions in exchange for the endorsement of the Roberson Senate Caucus and the money it brings to get elected. That’s just more of the same old back-room-politics- Back room deals by self-appointed king-makers and their cronies are a slap in the face to the people and, frankly, we are not in the mood for any more back-stabbing politicians!
