Texas Dietetic Association Supports the Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools Initiative

PRLog (Press Release) - Apr. 25, 2012 - Dallas, Texas –The Texas Dietetic Association (TDA) will attend a press conference in support of United Fresh Produce Foundation’s donation of 100 salad bars to Texas schools. The salad bars will increase fresh fruit and vegetable consumption for 75,000 Texas schoolchildren.  Let’s Move Salad Bars to Texas Schools supports First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative to end childhood obesity within a generation. The event will kick off United Fresh 2012, United’s annual exposition and the produce industry’s leading tradeshow.  

“We are honored to support such a wonderful initiative that is entering the school system in Texas.” said Karen Beathard, Registered and Licensed Dietitian and President of Texas Dietetic Association. “Dietitians in this great state of Texas are on the front lines every day in the war against childhood obesity.  We are thrilled to see that the United Fresh Produce Foundation will provide Texas children more fruits and vegetable choices as part of their lunch meal.  We know that repeated exposure to healthy foods is critical to acceptability at a young age, so this will inevitably have a positive lifelong impact on our students.”

TDA Public Relations is available to set-up media interviews before and during the press conference to discuss this initiative along with others to reduce the incidence of childhood obesity in Texas.

The United Fresh Foundation is a founding partner of Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools, a national initiative that has donated salad bars to more than 1,600 schools nationwide, increasing children’s access and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables in school lunch every day.
