Ooey, Chewy, Gooey’s mission is to provide unique, handcrafted, quality treats - without any yucky stuff - to bring joy, pleasure, and satisfaction to their guests. “Over the years, I have grown increasingly aware and highly concerned about the ingredients in the food I eat” said Mortensen. “Our gelato and sorbet will be made from real and honest ingredients. These ingredients will be sourced locally where possible and as organic as I can find them.”
The project aims to purchase the equipment needed to produce handcrafted, artisan gelato and sorbet. These will be sold initially at farmer’s markets, festivals, and events in the local Stow, Ohio area. The project will only be funded if $16,500 or more is raised by 11:02pm EST on Saturday, May 19, 2012. Otherwise, all pledges will be cancelled and the Ohio entrepreneur is back to square one.
The project has some early support from backers who have pledged a total of $300. Backers may opt to receive gifts as a reward for their support including: gelato, sorbet, an exclusive t-shirt, design their own flavor of gelato or sorbet, and even the opportunity to spend time in a hands-on gelato-making session with the owner.
Later this year, Mortensen plans to open a retail store in the local Stow, Ohio area. The store will sell chocolates, candies, and baked goods alongside the gelato and sorbet. Notes Mortensen, “this Kickstarter campaign is step one in the process of making Ooey, Chewy, Gooey a reality. Eventually, the store will open and create some very fun jobs here in the local Stow area. I have a lot of ideas for what we will offer to the community. All I need is a little help in getting off the ground.”
