Cancer Research UK completes its retail system rollout to 555 shops

April 24, 2012 - PRLog -- The leading UK charity, Cancer Research UK, has now completed its rollout of new EPoS technology to its 555 retail stores nationwide.  By deploying Cybertill’s charity retail system, which combines an electronic point-of-sale (EPoS) system and Gift Aid solution, Cancer Research UK over the next five years aims to generate an additional £18 million in revenue through Gift Aid.

Cybertill selected PC-based touchscreen terminals from its partner J2 Retail Systems to run at point-of-sale across the Cancer Research UK store estate.  The chosen model, the J2 615, is considered one of the best integrated touchscreen solutions available. The J2 615 sets a new standard for price and performance and was the first touchscreen EPoS computer to offer a Solid State Drive (SSD) as standard.  Designed to maximise reliability, the J2 615 features convection cooling that requires no fan which, together with the SSD, eliminates all moving parts.

The Gift Aid scheme allows charities to reclaim an extra 25% in tax on every eligible donation made by a UK taxpayer. Because of the Gift Aid initiative both national and regional charities have embarked on deploying Gift Aid systems throughout their charity shops, bringing a welcome source of additional revenue. There are strict procedures to follow when reclaiming Gift Aid, which are overseen by HMRC. The whole process of making the claim can be quite labour-intensive and is one of the reasons why many charity retailers turn to automated systems such as Cybertill’s Gift Aid system. Cybertill automates much of this process for charity shops, saving administrative time as well as helping to generate substantial extra revenue.

Project deployment was made easier by the fact that the Cybertill system is cloud-based.  All upgrades and data back ups are being centrally managed for the charity by Cybertill. “The project has been particularly exciting in that we deployed our system to 555 stores in just three months. We hope that the Cybertill system will make a real difference to Cancer Research UK and assist them in the excellent work they do,” concludes Tomlinson.
