St. Matthews Farmers’ Market Opens May 12, 2012

PRLog (Press Release) - Apr. 23, 2012 - The award winning St. Matthews Farmers’ Market, located in the heart of St Matthews at Beargrass Christian Church, 4100 Shelbyville Road, will begin its sixth season on Saturday, May 12 from 8 am until 12 noon. The weekly market takes place through September 29.

“We are proud to be the Kentucky Farmers’ Market of the Year - Urban Market Winner, and named Best Farmers’ Market by Louisville Magazine,” said Dale Mercker, Committee Chair. "With over 60 vendors and 2000 visitors each week, we provide a great Saturday morning activity for the whole community to come together." Beargrass Christian Church is easily accessible for pedestrians, bicyclists, TARC riders, and drivers.

The St. Matthews Farmers’ Market features high quality food and products from local producers. New this year will be the weekly Sullivan University Chef Challenge. Each week a Sullivan University Chef will shop the market and use that day’s purchases in a special cooking demonstration. Weekly events include additional local restaurant guest chef demonstrations, and a range of live music from local favorites.

Each week delicious market foods are available for purchase such as omelets, wraps, muffins, scones, bar-b-que, gelato, and popcorn. Shaded picnic tables are available for seating. Plastic bags are minimized to create an environmentally-friendly community gathering place. Sorry, pets are not allowed (except service dogs). Volunteers from Beargrass Christian Church direct traffic in and out of the parking lot and assist customers at the market.
