April 23, 2012 - PRLog -- XA Marketing Enterprise heard today that Royal Navy and dockyard workers are set to take part in a motorbike road safety initiative after a rise in incidents both inside and outside HM Naval Base Devonport. It comes after Plymouth representatives of The Motorcycle Action Group (MAG), joined together to try and help launch a major road safety drive to cut the worrying number of biker deaths and casualties in and around the city. Fire-fighters at Camels Head are behind the safety awareness ride for the dockyard and Navy personnel.

Our source at XA Marketing Enterprise, a Plymouth-based sales and marketing company said, “Events like this are so important. If they can save even one life or prevent an accident by raising awareness then it’s worthwhile.  A little bit of extra education can really make the difference for bikers.”

Green Watch crew manager Simon Gent, who has been riding motorbikes for 30 years and is a qualified advanced riding instructor, said: "There has been increasing concern from the dockyard about their own personnel having accidents on their motorbikes. It's not just outside the dockyard but some of them have been happening in the dockyard. We will have road safety advice here at Camels Head then we will ride out for a couple of hours and lead by example so people can watch our road position to see the best way to go around corners and bends and approach junctions."

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were among the organisations to show interest in the MAG road safety forum. Three rider training schools, representatives of Devon and Cornwall Police and the NHS were also keen to have an involvement.

“There’s been a really good uptake for the event so far,” said our source from XA Marketing Enterprise, “Hopefully it will continue and spread some real awareness of the issues for motorcyclists.”

Peter Bourner, representing MAG, said widespread support has now been received since announcing their intention to set up a forum with Plymouth City Council coming on board. Mr Bourner said: "It's all going very well and anything that raises awareness is very good and now we have the council working with us. We are due to meet them on Tuesday to get the biker safety meetings under way – it will be similar to the ones we do with Devon County Council."
