Urban Haat Mela (Handicraft Fest) will inaugurate in Jaipur in June 2012 on the theme of Delhi Haat Bazar. Artisans from whole country will participate in this festival, and will show their skills and their handicraft products round the year.

Jaipur : Urban Haat Mela (Handicraft Fest) will be organized at Amber road Jaipur on the theme of Delhi Haat Bazar. The Urban Haat Mela will inaugurate in June 2012 and it will continue for whole year. In this fest, Rajasthani Art will be promoted along with the handicraft of entire India on a single platform. Artisans from whole country will participate in this festival, and will show their skills and their handicraft products. Approximately 75 shops are proposed for this fest. Artisans will get the opportunity to display their products round the year through this Urban Haat Mela.

The Urban Haat Melas’ are already successfully running in Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Ajmer under the scheme of Government of India. It is believed that the Urban Haat Bazar will play a vital role in the growth of the economy of Rajasthan. Handicraft is one of the major and fundamental economic infrastructural resources for Rajasthan after agriculture. According to some statistics, there are approximately 6, 00,000 artisans are engaged in handicraft business in Rajasthan with 407, 700 handicraft industries.

In Urban Haat Mela, many forms of Rajasthani Arts will be displayed i.e. Rajasthani metal art, brass art, bandhej (Tie and Dye) art, miniature painting, kashidakari, woodden carving furniture, marble statues, wooden and metal craft, carpet, blue pottery, terracotta, papermeshi, lacquer bangles, german silver jewelry, marble stone carving, carving on wood, paper and elephant teeth, theva craft, dying and printing etc.

The Urban Haat Mela will be a major attraction for tourists, who come to see Amber, Jai Garh Fort, Nahargarh Fort and Jal Mahal. Here they can see and understand how

Rajasthani art and craft items are made. Accompanied this, they can also see crafts of other states of India. This will help artisans to sell their products to tourists.

There will be one more advantage of this handicraft bazaar that the tourists will get opportunity to buy handicraft items direct from artisans throughout the year, which is yet possible during only seasonal fests in Jaipur.
