April 20, 2012 - PRLog -- The Body Art Training Group proudly announced today that Kathy Hartman, one of its instructors, has been approved by the Department of Health, Los Angeles County to offer the 8-hour Body Art Health and Safety Training that is required for all body art practitioners working in Los Angeles County.

Kathy Hartman is an OSHA Authorized General Industry Outreach Trainer, a registered environmental health specialist, and since 1997 has written and spoken extensively on the topic of body art safety.

The 8-hour Body Art Health and Safety Training that is offered by Ms. Hartman covers the new Safe Body Art Act, including an overview of rules and regulations, practitioner registration requirements, bloodborne pathogen exposure control training, safe body art practices, permanent body art facility requirements, temporary body art facilities, and enforcement.

Each student who successfully completes the course will receive a certificate for the Body Art Health and Safety Training required by Los Angeles County and a certificate for completing four hours of Bloodborne Pathogens and Infection Control Training.

A special feature of Ms. Hartman’s in-shop training is that it includes a Body Art Shop Safety Plan. This master plan is completed by the shop owner during the training and has three sections: an Exposure Control Plan (ECP), an Infection Prevention and Control Plan (IPCP), and an Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP). Having such a master plan helps owners comply with state and local requirements for body art shops.

Since 2007, the Body Art Training Group, http://www.bodyarttraininggroup.com, has offered on-site bloodborne pathogens training for body art professionals. These courses provide training as required by OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 29 CFR 1910.1030 and California's Safe Body Art Act (AB 300).

In 2010, the Body Art Training Group began offering classes online.

These online classes are specifically designed for the body art industry and are suitable for all types of body art professionals: tattoo artists, piercers, permanent cosmetics technicians, electrologists, and body modification practitioners.
